1. Have at Least 2 Rows of Sunflowers on Every Level
Sunflowers help supply the sun resources needed to buy your offensive and defensive plants. It's best to place 2 full rows (vertically) of sunflowers just so you never run low on sun juice (which actually sounds delicious!). If you're really adamant about protecting your sunflowers, place a Wall-Nut in front of both rows and supplement them with your offensive plants. Potato Mines can also help if you place them near your Sunflowers. As soon as a zombie make the unwise decision to get next to a Potato Mine...BOOM!
2. The Basics of Keys and Stars
Geek.com made sure to state the the basics behind the use of keys and stars:
Keys and Stars: In order to unlock new levels and worlds, and different pathways and plants, you'll need to have a stock of keys and stars. This is the grindy bit of the game. However, if you replay each level enough times to get each star (either one or three per level), the zombies will pop enough keys for you to unlock doors, and you’ll gain enough stars to travel into the next world. Each world's key is tied to that world, so if you have 10 Egypt keys, you'll still need to gain new keys for the pirate world.
3. Try to Memorize Zombie Patterns
Each level contains a predetermined path for all the zombies that end up swarming you. For the first run-through of a specific level, it's best to win (of course) and it's way more intelligent to memorize the patterns of all the undead coming your way. If you end up being defeated on a specific level, you'll have an easier time completing it the second time around...if you remembered the zombies' patterns.
4. Plant Wall-Nuts in Every Row for Every Level
Wall-Nuts are good for protective purposes, which means zombies will have a harder time getting through them to your Sunflowers and other plants. Try and plant one in every lane just so your chances of survival increase.
5. Fill Up Your Lanes With Plants That Hit Multiple Zombies on the Tougher Stage
When you start to encounter tougher stages that are stocked with plenty of zombies, it's better to equip plants that have the ability to attack more than one zombie. Multiple lanes with multiple zombies will get smashed by plants with that special ability. You should have less of a problem dealing with these pirate zombies and whoever else if you have plants lacing shots on multiple lanes.
6. Don't Overuse Your Spikeweeds
Once you unlock the Spikeweeds, use them EXTREMELY liberally, because they can be a perfect combination with other plants to block zombies from attacking you. Zombies step on them and take damage, so if you put one in front of a Wall-Nut, all of the zombies that the Wall-Nut or other wall type of plant is blocking will get damaged by the Spikeweed. Planting a potato mine in front of a wall-nut is another good way to annihilate a massive amount of zombies in the same lane.
7. There's An Easy Way to Reshuffle the Purple World Deck
Don't like the cards you're dealt in the Purple World level? No problem. Just hit the Home button to exit Plants vs. Zombies 2, then double-click the Home button to open multitasking, then either touch and hold the Plants vs. Zombies 2 icon until it jiggles and tap the X to kill it (iOS 6), or grab the Plants vs. Zombies 2 card and toss it away (iOS 7). Once that's done, re-launch Plants vs. Zombies 2, and you'll have a whole new deck of cards to choose from!
8. Potato Mines Help You Catch Your Breath
Potato Mines knock out zombies pretty quickly since it blows them up. Keep a healthy amount of these weapons in tow since it's good to slow things down every now and again. If the zombie hordes become a bit too overwhelming, those Potato Mines will bring down the zombies you're dealing with to a manageable level.
9. Bonk Choy and SpikeWeeds Will Keep You Safer in Pirate World
If you're having trouble surviving Last Stand III in the Pirate World, try this formation. Using only Bonk Choy and Spikeweeds, you'll be able to complete the level without even looking. The Spikeweeds don't get eaten so the damage the zombies without ever having to be replaced. Any zombies that make it to the end get boxed into oblivion by the Bonk Choys.
10. You Really Don't Need to Purchase the IAPs to Complete the Game
Many people are complaining that IAPs are ruining the game. You really don’t have to buy them though as all levels can be completed without real money being spent on them. Actually, those mega plants just ruin the balance of the game and turn you into a zombie Terminator (which is a good thing if that’s what you are aiming for).
