Sony Xperia Z1 MiniEver since shaking loose its Ericsson baggage, Sony Mobile has been trying to woo smartphone buyers with its refreshed line of Xperia devices. It’s been a little behind the curve for the last few generations, but the Xperia Z1 has all the right stuff. It’s a big 5-inch phone, though, and there’s always appetite for more manageable devices. To cater to that market, Sony is reportedly developing a smaller Xperia Z1 Mini that keeps many of the hardware features of its big brother. The Z1 Mini will scale down the display to 4.3-inches with a resolution of 1280×720. That should still make for a very crisp screen. With Sony’s recent design aesthetic of very narrow bezels, this device should also be very easy to use one-handed. Even with the limited space, Sony will reportedly cram in the same 20.7MP camera sensor. The internals are also likely to live up to the regular Z1 with the same Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM. It may be smaller, but the Xperia Z1 Mini won’t be a stripped down experience. However, you might have to wait a while to get your hands on it. The Xperia Z1 Mini is expected to be announced at CES 2014 in January. Even then it might take a bit to show up on any carriers. Full price and unlocked might be the only way to go on this one.
